Thank you for sharing this. I think it's going to take me a while to process all of it.
I have been researching "spirituality," for a while, but clearly not long enough. I was drawn to it because I have experienced many events that seem to be premonitions and guidance. They have been so personal. I never imagined life could be like this.
Initially, I thought I would fit right into the “spiritual” community, but my experiences didn’t align with any of the claims. One afternoon I experienced an event that pushed me to find a concept I couldn’t even define (I was sure I would recognize it when I saw it), and what I found led me to publish a book about the conflicting "spiritual" views and some of the ways in which people are being influenced.
I eventually found my way to Theosophy. Some of the aspects they describe align with what I have been experiencing, and while I felt like the hierarchy and event structure went a bit too far, I was still holding onto a thread, so what you've shared here about Blavatsky is disheartening, to say the least.
What you’ve shared here has also helped me see that there are a variety of ways that negativity can continue to linger around some “spiritual” trends, i.e. like yoga, which seems so innocuous to someone like me.
What I feel I see more now is religious communities using many of these beliefs/practices as evidence that someone is operating outside of acceptable boundaries, and should therefore be ostracized.
Thank you for providing the book list. Looks like I have some reading to catch up on. Is there one in particular that you would recommend reading first?
